Clinics
Contraceptive services
The GPs are happy to advise about all forms of contraception. Nexplanon (rod) insertion is undertaken in the surgery and coil fitting(IUD/IUS) is via Family Planning. If you require the morning after pill, most pharmacies will be able to assist or make a same day appointment with one of the GPs.
Travel vaccinations and advice
We no longer offer a travel vaccination and advice service. Please find a link to information to the Travel Vaccine Service provided by NHS Lothian
Minor Surgery
Routine joint injections are often undertaken during normal surgeries. In addition Dr Ford undertakes minor surgery lists regularly at the practice for procedures requiring more time. Referral is made from routine GP appointments and our practice manager will then contact you with a date. Please note that lesions cannot be removed on the NHS for purely cosmetic reasons.
Chronic Disease Reviews
We like to see patients with many chronic health conditions for regular check ups. Most of these can be undertaken by the practice nurses and you will receive an invitation advising you what type of appointment to make. Most conditions are reviewed annually.
If blood tests are required, your appointment will need to be early in the day and if you have high blood pressure, kidney problems, diabetes or heart disease you should bring a fresh specimen of urine with you. Patients with asthma and COPD should bring along their current inhalers and any peak flow measurements they have recorded.
Cervical Screening
Women aged 25 to 64 are invited for smears every 5 years. Please make an appointment with one of the practice nurses for your smear. The GPs can also undertake smears during routine appointments. Please let us know if you would like a chaperone.
